Support that starts with understanding your dog

When something is difficult with your dog, it’s easy to focus entirely on the behaviour you want to change.
I prefer to start by looking at what might be happening underneath it.
What is your dog finding difficult? What are they communicating? What do they need to feel safer or more confident? And what can we change to make everyday life easier for both of you?
My approach is kind, practical and centred around the individual dog. There is no expectation that every dog should behave in the same way, and the aim isn’t obedience for obedience’s sake.
Whether you’ve recently welcomed home a rescue dog or have been living with your dog for years, we’ll start with the dog in front of us.
Life with your dog might not look quite how you imagined

Or perhaps you’ve recently brought home a rescue dog and you’re wondering how much is normal settling-in behaviour, when you should step in and whether you’re doing the right things.
You don’t need to wait until things become a major problem before asking for help. Sometimes a few changes in how we understand and support a dog can make everyday life feel much easier.
New Leash on Life is a five-week outdoor group course created specifically for rescue dogs and their people.
New Leash on Life
An outdoor course for rescue dogs and their people
Bringing home a rescue dog can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also come with challenges you weren’t expecting.
Some dogs need time to adjust to an entirely new life. Others may find particular situations difficult, struggle around other dogs or people, or simply need help building confidence in the world around them.
New Leash on Life is a five-week outdoor group course created specifically for rescue dogs and their people.
Rather than trying to ‘fix’ your dog or rush them through a list of training exercises, we’ll look at what helps dogs feel safe, build confidence and develop trust, alongside useful skills for everyday life.
🐾 Five small-group outdoor sessions in a calm, supportive environment
🧠 Theory and guidance to help you better understand your dog and their behaviour
🐕 Practical everyday skills, including recall and loose lead walking
🌿 Play and scent activities that give dogs opportunities to explore, make choices and use their natural abilities
💬 Time to ask questions and talk about the things you’re experiencing at home
💛 Support focused on confidence, security and connection, rather than simply getting your dog to comply.
Who is it for?
New Leash on Life is for rescue dogs of any age and the people who live with them.
Your dog doesn’t need to arrive knowing particular skills, and you don’t need to have everything figured out before you come. The course is there to help you understand your dog, build your relationship and find practical ways forward together.

1:1 dog training and behaviour support

Sometimes a group course isn’t appropriate, or there’s something specific happening with your dog that needs more individual attention.
In a 1:1 consultation, we can take a closer look at what’s going on, the circumstances surrounding the behaviour and what your dog may be finding difficult.
From there, we’ll work out practical changes that can support your dog and make things more manageable for you.
I don’t approach consultations with a predetermined formula or a list of things your dog ‘should’ be doing. The starting point is always understanding your individual dog and what is happening in their particular situation.
Consultation fees
Initial consultation: €150 in person / €130 Zoom
Follow-up sessions: €120 in person / €100 Zoom
In-person consultations are available in selected local areas.
Houndy Hangouts

Not everything needs to be a training class.
Houndy Hangouts are relaxed group walks for dogs who are already comfortable around other dogs and would benefit from regular opportunities to walk and spend time alongside them.
They’re also a chance for the humans to meet other dog people, have a chat and finish the walk with a coffee at a local dog-friendly spot.
There are no training goals to achieve and no pressure to perform. It’s simply an opportunity for suitable dogs and their people to spend some relaxed time together.

Not sure what kind of support you need?

You don’t need to diagnose the problem or decide which service is right before getting in touch.
Tell me a little about your dog, what’s been happening and what you’d like some help with. I can let you know whether New Leash on Life, a 1:1 consultation or another form of support would be the most appropriate next step.
